Chris Gar-NOW.

new artist review time.

so there's this adorable little man i've been listening to for a while now. his name is Chris Garneau. In the very best possible way, he's more or less the male equivalent of Regina Spektor. seriously, don't let that discourage you from listening to him. though i've never met the man, or even seen him perform live, he seems to have a modest, humble disposition that fits his mousey hipster image, as well as his music perfectly. i find Garneau's voice almost too soothing. i couldn't even fall asleep to his album if i wanted to, it keeps me awake wishing i could sing like him just so i could get half as many chicks to come on to me. The songs are all relatively simple from a musical standpoint; basic chord progressions looped around and around in the shape of simple riffs, though they are often accompanied by a string or two, and even some horns are peppered in. as simple as the music may be, it's endearing, and beautiful. I should note his lyrics are something worth paying attention to, he undoubtedly has a lyrical style all his own to match his unique vocal style.

i guess that's all i can really say. it's 4am, and i'm not so great of a writer (especially when it comes to content) even under better circumstances. watch the sweetass video below.

Pianos Become The Houses We Die In

alright, so i know i should be writing a review on a new band by now, but for now i wanted to do a quick update on Pianos Become The Teeth. why? because i love their sound, i love their presence, they are amazing. This band has just posted a music video of their song "Houses We Die In", and while it's not a song featured on the album i told you to go buy, it's still beautiful and the video deserves to be watched. however, i believe they made an artistic decision and chose to be fairly calm whilst playing their instruments in the video, so it's not a very accurate example of how explosive they can be live. at any rate, enjoy:

i'm convinced that this band deserves any and all success that they appear to be working very hard for.

there are a couple of options available for ordering his book online. you can either pick up an unsigned copy through upper playground (http://www.upperplayground.com/), or you can visit sieben's website (http://www.msieben.com/) and pay the few extra dollars for a signed copy.

Treats for your earholes.

So forever ago i promised to do some sweet reviews on this blog, and i've been doing a terrible job at keeping that promise. but here i am on my mother's laptop, getting over a five-day fever in order to make a sad attempt at talking about one of my new favorite bands, Pianos Become The Teeth.

I'd really be able to do this group of manly men more justice if i waited 'til my brain wasn't feeling so constricted right now, but i'll give it a whirl anyway. Ever since seeing them play at Punk Rock House II in Elkhorn, i've been listening to their album Old Pride more or less daily. To me, they're pretty straight forward screamo, but....better at it. Vocals are driven by a unique rhythm, while the post-rock moving guitar parts are backed by just the right amount of subtle sludge. Seeing them live made me appreciate the notion of having heavy metal hair without giving a shit about heavy metal.

Really, there's so much more to be said about these guys, but i really can't think. They blew my mind live, and I'm in love with their latest record, and i encourage everyone else to let their minds be blown as well.

here's a couple photos from their performance for the opening of PRHII:

God, that hair....

here's a link to their myspace (LISTEN TO "FILIAL"), and an awesome PBTT long jump tourney video:

artsy fartsy

hey there! this is a blog dedicated to the artwork/creative minds of four strapping young lads. we dig beer, long walks on the beach, drive plymouth prowlers and wear designer lederhosen. we also own a company that produces infant body suits (onesies) anyone interested should buy now!

enjoy the images, news, beer reviews and comment on, or perhaps even request artwork. zines, flatpack toys and other things are in the works, I just need to find time to get that stuff up. enjoy.
